Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct of the Barwon Rowing Club.
Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct (Code) is to declare the type of behaviour which is encouraged by the Barwon Rowing Club Inc. (the Club). This is the behaviour the Club is seeking to promote and encourage all of it’s members to adopt.
In addition to this Code, listed are some examples of behaviour which shall be deemed by the Club to be conduct unbecoming” or “conduct not in the interest of the Club and the promotion of it’s objectives”.
By listing this Code, as well as some examples of behaviour deemed to be unbecoming the Club wishes to offer it’s members, clear and consistent direction in this area.
Key Principles
- The Club wishes to operate in an environment where it’s members show respect for the Club and it’s property. Respect is defined as consideration for the Club’s overall reputation, status and also it’s possessions, to ensure no damage or deprivation is caused to either.
- The Club wishes to operate in an environment where it’s members show respect for others and their property. Respect is defined as consideration for another’s physical and emotional well being and possessions, to ensure no damage or deprivation is caused to either.
- The Club wishes to operate in a non-discriminatory environment where all members have an equal opportunity and receive a “fair go” in accordance with the rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines of the Club.
- The Club wishes to operate in an environment which is free from harassment of any kind whatsoever. Harassment is defined as any action directed at an individual or any group which creates an intirnidatory, hostile or offensive environment.
Key Elements
All members bound by this code shall:
- Demonstrate a positive commitment to the Club’s overall standing, reputation, and promotion within the community.
- Demonstrate a positive commitment to the Club’s rules, regulations, policies and guidelines.
- Not act in any manner unbecoming or contrary to the interests of the Club.
- Treat another member’s property with respect and due consideration of it’s value.
- Not misuse the funds and property of the Club.
- Assist the Club in its fundraising activities.
- Assist the Club with maintenance activities associated with the Club’s rowing equipment, non-rowing equipment and the clubhouse, as well as general cleaning duties for the clubhouse.
Governance
This code shall be known as the Barwon Rowing Club Inc. Code of Conduct. The code shall govern the conduct of all members of the Barwon Rowing Club Inc.
Unsuitable Behaviour
This list describes examples of behaviour which the Club deems to be unsuitable and not in the best interest of the Club and also not in the best interest of sport:
- Sledging other athletes, officials or event organisers. Sledging is defined as a statement which is deemed to denigrate and/or intimidate another person.
- Causing damage to another person’s property during the conduct of a regatta or when representing the Club.
- Excessive use of alcohol, acting in a way that becomes a public nuisance or creating a public nuisance that may in some way, be linked to or associated with the Club.
- Mistreatment or abuse of the property of the Club.
- Blatant disregard for any reasonable request of a Club official or representative.
Non-compliance
It is expected that the code of conduct will be supported and adhered to by all members, coaches, spectators, visitors and people hiring the facilities. The policy will apply equally to all.
Non-compliance by a member with the code will be brought to the attention of the committee who shall decide on the actions to be taken.
